Artists of Sword & Sorcery : Mike Ploog (1942-)

Mike Ploog is a comic book artist from the 1970s who later turned to the more lucrative designing movie characters and doing story boards. In comics he found fame with Werewolf By Night and later Man-Thing. His first Sword & Sorcery pieces were for Warren. “Tower of the Demon Dooms” (Eerie #35, September 1971), “The Wedding Gift” (Vampirella #14, November 1971). For Marvel be drew Kull the Destroyer #11-15 (November 1973-August 1974) and the Klarn series “An Ugly Mirror on Weirdworld” (Marvel Super-Action #1 (October 1975) continued in Marvel Premiere #38 (Oct. 1977).

Mike worked on the fantasy films Wizards (1977), The Lord of the Rings (1978), The Dark Crystal (1982), The Black Cauldron (1985), Labyrinth (1986), The Storyteller TV series (1988) and Shrek (2001).
